A comprehensive guide to reading Thai script -- from consonant order to special cases
In Thai, the consonant is always the starting point for reading a syllable, even when the vowel symbol appears to the left, above, or below it.
When you see เ before a consonant, you do not pronounce it first. You identify the consonant, then apply the vowel sound.
Written: เ + ก
Step 1: Read ก (k)
Consonant first
Step 2: Apply เ- (ee)
Vowel second
= “kee”
